The following summaries of sample projects will give you insight into my executive assessment and management consulting process. My experience advising investors and executives with these projects continues to influence my current services.
CEO ASSESSMENT FOR PRIVATE EQUITY INVESTORS
Investors at a leading private equity firm wanted an executive assessment of the CEO and an Organization Scan for a $60M enterprise software business during the due diligence period. The project gave investing principals insight into the strengths and gaps of the CEO and executive team and helped them understand what issues to watch for as the company executed on its growth plan. As part of the executive assessment I offered advice to the CEO to adjust his leadership style in order to drive higher alignment and accountability within his team.
EXECUTIVE TEAM ASSESSMENTS AND WORKSHOP
The Chairman & CEO of a rapidly-growing San Francisco Bay Area virtualization software company hired me for management consulting and to conduct in-depth 360 developmental assessments for himself and the members of his executive team. The project included a series of executive team workshops that helped the team find better ways to hold each other accountable.
M&A EXECUTIVE ASSESSMENT
The CEO of a publicly traded natural resources company engaged me and my colleagues to conduct executive assessments of the top 20 executives at a competitor as part of an M&A integration process. The report drove decisions on whom to keep on and in what role. “Looking back, the accuracy of [Jonathan’s] insights was spooky,” he said.
EXECUTIVE COACHINGI worked with a high potential leader in a rapidly growing Bay Area company for four months. When we met, he was experiencing frustration and disappointment in both his personal and professional lives and was in need of development support. He wanted to move beyond this and sought to position himself for functional or department leadership. I helped him to identify a self-imposed constraint to his effectiveness and helped him to identify and practice some skills and behaviors that are now allowing him to function in a more senior role. His interactions with the company’s top executives are both more confident and more nuanced as a result of this work.
ORGANIZATION SCAN FOR PRIVATE EQUITY INVESTORS
Private Equity investors in a $30M electronic health records company hired me to conduct an Organization Scan. The two-week project uncovered mismatches between the top two executives’ roles and their capabilities, and resulted in the board recasting each of their roles.
